Sheffield Composite Doors offer GRP composite doors and Solid Core composite doors.
As standard the doors on our online door designer are GRP composite doors with a 1mm thick skin.
GRP or glass reinforced plastic (fiberglass) composite doors are typically filled with foam, making them highly thermally efficient.
The outer layer of a GRP composite door is made of two GRP skins bonded to a solid frame which is then filled with insulation, which is usually a high density foam. Unfortunately, due to this foam the door slab currently cannot be recycled.
We also now offer a higher security GRP foam filled composite door with a 3mm thick skin. This upgrade is available for £150 on top of the website price for the door you design.
You can upgrade your new door to a solid core composite door for an additional £300 on top of the price shown on our online door designer.
As solid core doors are mainly made of timber, the door slabs are around twice as heavy as a foam filled GRP door. This also makes for a much higher strength door slab.
Solid core doors are the preferred choice of door by the vast majority of insurance companies.
Solid core doors are also more environmentally friendly, as they are mainly made from wood and can be recycled at the end of their life.
